The Blood Service app is updated – blood donation is now more accessible

The renewed Blood Service mobile app caters to an increasing number of donors. The English and Swedish versions of the app make the app even more accessible.

With three language options available, we can now serve even more blood donors. For example, Swedish-speaking blood donors are particularly active: Swedish-speaking donors represent 7.2% of all blood donors, which is higher than their share of the entire population of Finland (5.2%).

The English version of the app was also requested based on donor feedback. The number of English-speaking users is on the rise, with 2.1% reporting English as their language last year.

The expansion of language options was a request from thousands of donors. Our goal is to have a broad and diverse donor base, which is why the app is available in three languages – according to our knowledge, as the only one in the world!

Virtual lifesaver badges as a thank you

The latest version of the app significantly improves the user experience by having new gamification elements for blood donors.

Donors will now receive virtual lifesaver badges for their visits, which will thank them for donating blood and encourage them to donate again.

From now on, donors can also save their personal details in the app. The app will also show the nearest donation locations and provide easy access to appointment booking and the health questionnaire for blood donors.

By turning on notifications in the app’s settings, Blood Service will notify donors in critical and urgent situations. These could include, for example, major accident scenarios.

Currently, the app has nearly 78,000 users. We aim to continue improving the app to make it even better!
