The application period for Blood Service research grants for 2025 opens

The application period for 2025 grants from the Blood Service Research Fund will open to researchers on the 17th of March. The purpose of these grants is to support research related to current and future Blood Service products and services. The application period ends on the 14th of April 2025.

Samples are being examined in the Blood service laboratory.

These grants are primarily intended for scientific projects outside the Blood Service that support the Blood Service research strategy. For 2025, in total €200,000 can be granted for research projects focusing on (i) challenges in the blood supply chain in a changing society; or (ii) multidisciplinary research on donating blood, cells, and other biological materials. Research projects can belong to fields such as medicine, health science, economics, or social science.

Funding applications are accepted for research expenses, salaries, personal grants, or researcher visits to or from Finland. Grants are awarded for a duration of 1–3 years.

Application instructions and the form can be found on our website.

Applications will be reviewed by the Evaluation Committee. The responsible researchers named in the application will be notified in autumn 2025 of the decisions made by the Blood Service Board of Directors.

Since 2021, the Research Fund has granted over 2 million euros for research on blood donation and use, as well as research on cell therapies, blood cells, and transplants. A list of awarded grants is available also on our website.

The Blood Service Research Fund was established by the Finnish Red Cross, with grants decided annually by the Board of Directors as part of the Blood Service budget process. The purpose of the Research Fund is to support the implementation of the Blood Service research strategy.
