The annual report of Blood Service contains key figures for the year 2024
In the fresh annual report from Blood Service, you will find key figures and an overview of last year's most important events.

- Whole blood was collected a total of 170,365 times during the year. There were 110,681 individual blood donors, which corresponds to 3.1% of the suitable population.
- New donors were registered 18,052, the target was missed by about 3,000 donors.
- The proportion of men among blood donors increased in 2024. Last year, 45% of registered blood donors were men. The proportion of women is still larger than that of men, 55%.
- The proportion of donors using English in blood donation increased and was 2.1% in 2024. Finland needs more donors of different origins to ensure that blood products for patient care are available even from rare blood groups.
The stem cell registry mediated a record number of transplants (160 pcs) to seriously ill patients. In 2024, 3,770 new members joined the registry. The total number of members in the registry was 75,736 at the end of the year.
The use of the new blood donation bus in the capital region enabled the collection of blood products from a wider area.
Blood Service’s researchers participated in 52 peer-reviewed scientific publications during the year, which were published in proven high-quality series.
