Thank You Gifts for Blood Donors Encourage Both Veterans and First-Time Donors
Blood donors have been recognized according to the Red Cross recognition program for significant and long-term donations since the 1950s. The program has now been updated.
The update has taken into account feedback and wishes from donors and staff: For example, the recognition of blood donors at the beginning of their donation journey has been increased.
Impactful Gifts as a New Option
On the first visit, the blood donor receives a Lifesaver bag. On the fifth and tenth visits, the gift option is a Red Cross product. The donor can also donate the recognition to charity as an impactful gift from the Red Cross.
“The recent change seems to be welcomed. Donors are pleased with the recognition and the fact that they have the option to choose. Many donors have chosen an impactful gift and thus passed on the good,” comments Liisa Romo, Customer Manager at the Blood Service.
Product gifts are now selected on-site at the blood donation point.
“We are very pleased that the blood donor receives the chosen thank you gift in a timely manner, handed over by the blood donation nurse. Previously, the recognition gift sometimes had to be waited for a long time,” says Liisa Romo.
Donor Celebrations for Veteran Donors
We remember long-time donors who have donated blood 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 times, etc., with a special gift.
After fifty donations, the recognition options are a golden pin or jewelry, a Donor hoodie, a Red Cross product, or an impactful gift. After the hundredth donation, the selection also includes a bronze miniature statue “The Three Faces of Distress,” a Blood Service pennant for the 150th donation, and a silver honorary plaque for the 200th donation.
Long-term donors are also recognized with donor celebrations, to which a personal invitation is sent.
With the latest application update, virtual lifesaver badges are also included in the donor recognition.
