Privacy Policy
Data protection refers to the protection of privacy when processing personal data. The protection of personal data is a fundamental right of every natural person in accordance with the European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The processing of personal data is essential for the Blood Service’s operations, and the appropriateness of the processing is important in order to maintain the trust of donors, customers, patients, and society in general.
We respect everyone’s right to the protection of personal data and we process personal data with care and confidentiality. We only collect personal data that is necessary for our operations, and protect it in the manner required by the nature of the data. Data is only handled by persons who are required to do so by their tasks. Our employees and partners in cooperation are bound by an obligation to non-disclosure.
In addition to general data protection legislation, such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Blood Service’s operations are governed by a special set of laws that regulate the processing of personal data by the Blood Service. For example, the law stipulates a 30-year traceability obligation concerning the donation of blood or tissue, which is why data about the donor and the donation cannot be removed during that time.
Our operations involve a number of different personal data files depending on the purpose of the data. The registers’ Privacy Policy can be found in the links below.
You can request your personal data using the data request form and request rectification of your personal data using the request for rectification form. In addition you can prohibit the use of your data in blood service’s research activities with the prohibition of research form.
If you have any questions relating to data protection, please contact the person in charge of the personal data file (contact details can be found in the privacy policy) or the data protection officer, tietosuojavastaava(at)veripalvelu.fi.
You will find more information about how the Finnish Red Cross processes personal data here.
