Johanna Castrén appointed as the director of blood donation operations
Johanna Castrén (M.D.) has been appointed as the director of blood donation operations at the Blood Service and as a member of the Management Group.
Having worked at the Blood Service since 2008, Johanna Castrén knows the ins and outs of blood donation operations both in Finland and abroad. At the moment, she works as the chief medical officer and leads the medical service operations for blood donation.
Castrén has several years’ worth of experience working in many international cooperation groups. She has represented Finland in the European Committee on Blood Transfusion since 2014 and assumed the role of the Vice Chair of the Committee in 2021.
“I am excited to start in this new role. Voluntary blood donation has a strong foundation in Finland and we are proud to employ tremendously skilled professionals. However, the world is constantly changing, which means that we, too, need to evolve in order to be able to collect enough blood for the hospitals in the future as well. We often say that ‘it all starts with the donor’ and I think it’s absolutely true,” Castrén says.
Johanna Castrén will start in her new position on 3 April 2023.
