Thailand
If you have recently travelled in a malaria-risk area, please wait six months before donating blood after returning to Finland. Travelling elsewhere in the country results in a 28-day donation deferral period and living in the country results in a three-month donation deferral period.
Malaria occurs in rural areas and jungles across the country. The risk is the highest in the woody border areas near the borders of Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia and Laos, and in the Khao Sok National Park. In addition, the Ko Chang Island is a malaria-risk area.
There is no risk of malaria in most package holiday destinations or in the large cities, including the following destinations: Bangkok, Cha-am, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Hua Hin, Khao Lak, Koh Samet, Ko Tapu (James Bond Island), Krabi, Pattaya, Phuket Province, Ko Phi Phi Le (the island made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rayong.
