FAQ
Here you will find answers to the most common questions related to blood donation, the Stem Cell Registry and the Blood Service.
How do I know whether I am already a member of the Stem Cell Registry?
You can enquire about your membership by calling tel. 029 300 1515 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) or by sending an email to kantasolurekisteri@veripalvelu.fi.
How do I remove my name from the Stem Cell Registry?
You can remove yourself from the Stem Cell Registry by calling us at tel. 029 300 1515 (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) or by sending an email to kantasolurekisteri@veripalvelu.fi.
I am a member and I am about to move abroad. What should I do?
Please contact the Stem Cell Registry by emailing at kantasolurekisteri@veripalvelu.fi or by calling +358 29 300 1515. If you are moving abroad permanently, we can discuss the possibility of transferring your donor information to the stem cell registry of your new country of residence. Donors must reside in Finland during the stem cell donation process.
Why is the registry in need of men especially?
Two thirds of the registry’s members are women. Their membership is valuable, and women are also selected to donate stem cells.
However, for biological reasons, men are more often selected as donors than women, which makes it important to attract more men to join the registry.
Why is there no reward for donating?
A stem cell donation is a gift given voluntarily by a person who wants to help someone in need and does not involve a reward.
Paying a reward for donations would increase the risk that potential donors might hide information about their health. This could put both the donor and the patient at risk.
