Blood donation is proven to be easy – Finnish celebrities show that helping is wonderfully easy
According to surveys conducted by the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service, blood donation is perceived as an easy way to help. The Blood Service's "Wonderfully Easy" campaign highlights the ease and importance of blood donation with the help of well-known public figures. Blood donation takes only less than an hour but can save a life.

“Blood donation is a quick, easy, and free way to help. At best, you can participate in saving lives, what could be a more valuable way to spend a short moment of your day”, encourages radio host and content producer Karoliina Tuominen.
Blood donation events are organized throughout the year across Finland, every weekday. The process is designed to be smooth and effortless.
You don’t need to know your blood type, nor do you need to prepare for blood donation in advance. Every blood donor fills out a health questionnaire in advance and discusses with a nurse before donating, ensuring the safety of both the donor and the patient. Blood donors are offered coffee, tea, juice, and small snacks immediately after donation to support recovery. On the day of donation, you can do your normal chores. Avoid sauna and strenuous exercise.
Arttu Wiskari joined the campaign for a loved one
“Wonderfully Easy” is a campaign implemented in collaboration between the Blood Service and the advertising agency Smoy. The campaign aims to increase the number of new blood donors and make blood donation more attractive. The faces of the campaign, in addition to Karoliina Tuominen, are actor Kristo Salminen, artist and songwriter Isaac Sene, and musician Arttu Wiskari. All participants are involved in the campaign without compensation.
The need for a loved one’s blood made Arttu Wiskari join:
“For me, blood donation is important because my father was in great need of blood a while ago. Now he is doing well because he received blood”, Wiskari says.
You can participate in the “Wonderfully Easy” campaign by donating blood. Encouraging blood donation is also valuable. You can help, for example, by telling your close ones about the importance of blood donation, encouraging people on social media, acting as a donor group leader, or supporting a first-time donor.
Excellent rating for the ease of blood donation
In surveys conducted in 2024, blood donors gave an average rating of 9.4 on a scale of 1-10 for ease. There were a total of 1,769 blood donors as respondents. The results show that blood donation is generally perceived as a smooth and pleasant experience.
Donors appreciate the electronic donor services developed in recent years, which make transactions easier. Donors can, for example, fill out the health questionnaire in advance, reducing unnecessary visits. After donation, the blood donor can check their hemoglobin and the next possible donation date in the app. In blood donation, donors appreciate the professionalism and friendly service attitude of the staff, as well as the smoothness of the donation, which according to respondents, exceeds expectations.
“Blood donation is a wonderfully easy way to help. You don’t need to reserve the whole day or take out your wallet. Just a small stop and life goes on – yours and someone else’s”, copywriter Teemu Eskola from SMOY summarizes.
New donors are constantly needed
In Finland, more than 20,000 new blood donors are needed annually. Patients need the help of 600-700 blood donors every day. It is important that there are enough voluntary blood donors in Finland. This ensures that patients receive the blood products they need in all situations.
The ease and smoothness of blood donation are key factors that encourage people to participate. Most 18-70-year-olds can donate blood as long as their hemoglobin levels are high enough and their health is good.
