Blood Donation Event on the Åbo Svenska Teater Stage on Wednesday, March 12
The Finnish Red Cross Blood Service is organizing a unique blood donation event for the eighth time in collaboration with Åbo Svenska Teater on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 12 PM to 6 PM. The event is organized in collaboration with student organizations from universities and higher education institutions in the Turku region.

The goal of the Blood Service is to have over 20,000 new donors in 2025. This goal can only be achieved with the help of voluntary blood donors.
“Turku has 40,000 students, which means there is enormous potential in strengthening our collaboration with universities. Student organizations play a valuable role by participating in this blood donation campaign,” says Pekka Kukko, Regional Manager of the Blood Service in Turku.
The collaboration between the Blood Service and Åbo Svenska Teater began at the theater’s initiative during Finland’s 100th anniversary year. The successful campaign has now become an established annual part of the theater’s social engagement.
“It is a pleasure to collaborate with the Blood Service and open the theater in such a unique way for an important and meaningful cause”, says Anna Ehrström, Production Coordinator, and Maria Olin, Communications Manager at Åbo Svenska Teater.
A Unique Setting for Blood Donation
During the event, the theater hall is beautifully lit, and musical theatre music plays in the background. This year’s theme for the event is “Students overalls”.
After donating blood, visitors are welcome to stay at the theater to enjoy coffee and snacks while observing the donation process from the auditorium. The Blood Service offers donors filled croissants, doughnuts, smoothies, coffee, and tea.
The main stage of Åbo Svenska Teater is directly accessible from the Hansa shopping center in Turku.
Who Can Donate?
Most people of eligible age can donate blood. First-time donors must be between 18 and 59 years old, while those who have previously donated may continue until the age of 70.
