Key to Blood Barometer

The Blood Barometer is a way of informing donors of current supply of different blood groups, the overall blood supply and changes in blood supply. Note that the changes may be sudden.

Blood donors in all blood groups are needed regularly all year round. This requires at least one thousand blood donors every working day.

A sufficient supply of blood products is the only way to ensure the ability of the Blood Service to support hospitals with patient care even in emergencies. Furthermore, as some products can only be used over a short period of time, blood may be needed urgently.

	Sufficient supply. Sudden changes may occur. Please keep an eye on the situation on the Blood Service homepage.
	Moderate supply. Blood needed within a week.
	Low supply. Blood needed within the next few days.
	Alarmingly low supply. Blood needed today or within the next few days.
	Emergency. Blood needed today. We need your help immediately in order to have a sufficient supply of blood products available to all patients who need them in Finnish hospitals.

The supply information is updated once a day. If necessary, updates are more frequent. The Blood Barometer is in real-time. Therefore, the information it contains is not suitable as such for other communication purposes. We are happy to provide further information at:
